How come Linux runs faster on my PC then Windows XP?

Question by Russell Mania: How come Linux runs faster on my PC then Windows XP?
My friend told me that its more stable then Microsoft product, so I thought I would give it a try. Since I started using Linux, my computer doesn't crash, freeze, or even slow down. It boots up 5 times faster, and shuts down faster. I would think Windows would be more stable since you pay for it and its made by Microsoft, which is one of the richest company's in the world?
