Should I buy domain from my web host or from separate domain website?

Question by Chris: Should I buy domain from my web host or from separate domain website?
I am planning to get a domain. I have a web hosting service. I would like to know if I should buy one from separate domain site (like Yahoo) or from my web host?

What if I change my web host? would I have hard time getting my domain as well if I buy from them? Do they charge a lot for domain, when you change the host?
