Q&A: Is there a version of linux where you can save directly to a flash drive?

Question by Showster: Is there a version of linux where you can save directly to a flash drive?
I've been looking for a version of linux where I can boot it from the flash drive totally in memory and save files directly to the flash drive and not on the computer's hard drive. I've found puppy linux does it, but I've had a lot of problems with it failing to boot before. Any advice is welcome.
