Can i host a domain, without going through and buying a plan from a registrar?

Question by Jacob: Can i host a domain, without going through and buying a plan from a registrar?
I already purchased the domain name, and have an epp key. but i was hoping that i could just host it, is this possible or no.. if no then are there any registrars that are free? thanks
